INTRODUCTION
In ocular pathology, there are situations in which preserving the eyeball is impossible, requiring radical surgery, the loss of an organ having both a psychological impact on the patient and a socio-economic impact, requiring prosthetics of the remaining cavity for a satisfactory result. A patient facing the reality of a permanent loss of an eyeball requires medical support, psychological rehabilitation and social reintegration, in order to achieve a normal quality of life. When an eye is removed, more frequently after trauma or infection, but also from congenital diseases or cancer, an orbital implant is used to fill the volume in the orbit (the bony cavity around the eye), so as to maintain the natural appearance of the orbit and to provide support for the artificial eye (ocular prosthesis).
